Why does the SARA issue like to make people noisy?

Why does the SARA issue like to make people noisy? As Indonesians, we often boast of how diverse this country is.  That is also why we must maintain harmony so that this diversity does not cause fights.  To the extent that many forbid to discuss SARA.  What is SARA?  Why can the case have a long tail and make people go to war?

In short, SARA is an abbreviation of these four words.  These four things are very diverse in Indonesia.  Unfortunately, the diversity of tribes, religions, races and between groups that should be the pride of Indonesia, is sometimes used to insult each other.  That's why when people talk about SARA, people can be sensitive.  Even though discussing SARA is natural and even important for us to be able to admit and accept differences.  So, why do we have a hard time getting along?

Simply put, there is a theory that explains this phenomenon.  This theory describes how our identity is formed based on the groups we are close to.  So everyone likes groups.  For example, we meet a group of people who are from the same ethnicity or race, have the same religion, or the same group.  When we meet, this group becomes a source of our pride and self-esteem.

When the identity of this group is deeply embedded in our lives, we usually think that our group is the best.  Not infrequently this is done by comparing with other groups.  Even to the point of vilifying other groups.  Sadly, sometimes this view of other groups is groundless.  Finally, by accumulating negative assumptions, many groups do not like each other and end up fighting.  This dispute is being exacerbated by many factors, so if we don't immediately fix the country that our heroes are fighting for, this country might not last long.

All over the world many conflicts arise regarding these matters.  Worse still, in Indonesia, seeds of division are also increasingly emerging.  Recently, we often hear news about the harassment of certain ethnic groups and races in Indonesia.  Eventually, the hatred between the different groups grew even more.  Of course, we don't want Indonesia to be divided like this.

The emergence of differences in society is natural.  So there is nothing wrong for us to understand each other.  The easiest way is to study groups that are different from ours.  We can do this by talking or reading.  As long as the source is reliable and not compromising.  This way we can understand their way of thinking and realize that all the differences that we have, can't be denied.  And tolerance is really needed to be able to accept differences more freely.

So there's nothing wrong with discussing SARA — and if you think about it, it's actually good because it allows us to get to know each other, know what the differences are, and find common ground that is comfortable for everyone.  As long as you talk about it in a respectful, open-minded, and of course tolerant manner.
